Starbucks vs. Dunkin: What does McNicholas High School prefer?

Starbucks Coffee and Dunkin Donuts are two of the largest competitors in quick service breakfast in the United States. Because of their similarities, which is the best is a controversial topic and the McNicholas Rockets are opinionated on each side of the coffee debate.

When walking through the halls on any given school day, many of the students and staff are likely holding a Starbucks or Dunkin order in their hands.  Drinks vary from hot coffees to sugary cold drinks, and teas, sometimes accompanied by a snack from the shop, too.

The graph above shows that Starbucks is more popular with the McNicholas students and staff.

Starbucks and Dunkin both have coffee, refreshers, and food, but Starbucks has more options. Mr. Jack Vetter, English teacher, states, “I prefer Starbucks more because they have more variety… and you’re paying for quality.”

Dunkin offers 27 different drinks on their menu while Starbucks has 35 hot coffee options alone. Although, Starbucks does have more expensive items. The Rockets have shown that doesn’t affect their preference over Dunkin. “Dunkin is way cheaper for the amount you are getting,” Jordan Wheatly, Junior, states.

Though many students enjoy bringing in a treat in the morning, it sometimes leads to being in a rush. Both businesses end up busy in the mornings, but Dunkin, to students, seems to be quicker and get food out faster. “I like Dunkin more because they are faster, especially when I mobile order, and Starbuck’s mobile order still takes a while” junior, Lexie Skinner, states.

Another winning trait for Dunkin is the option of donuts. “Dunkin’ is better because they have donuts and Starbucks does not” Grace Roebel, freshman, states.

Both Dunkin and Starbucks offer mobile ordering through their apps; however, many prefer the Starbucks app. “I have the Dunkin and Starbucks apps, but the Starbucks app is better because of the rewards to get freebies,” Riley Williams, freshmen, states. Both apps offer a reward system of points after each purchase.

“I like the taste better” states Mrs. Hambly, Director of Curriculum, in response to her preference of Starbucks.

Most people voted that Starbucks was much better than Dunkin and how they had many different opinions for drinks.

“I love that there are so many options and something for everyone” Allison Runte, Sophomore, states.

Starbucks and Dunkin do have similar items overall, but when it comes down to the details Starbucks has won the hearts of the McNicholas community.
