Mrs. Julie Miller, McNicholas’s math tutor and co-teacher, has been at McNicholas for six years and she is looking forward to more.
Miller worked as a sub for McNicholas for a year, covering for Math and Business/technology teacher Mrs. Barb Gillming and then for Department chair Mrs. Ashley Brothers during her maternity leave. Miller was then asked to teach part-time before becoming the Math Department’s full time tutor. “The tutoring job started as the Covid relief money, so it was meant to only be two years. It was kind of to help people fill the gaps from the covid, but because so many people were coming in, McNick continued the program,” Miller said.
Miller graduated from Xavier University with a bachelors degree in math and secondary education and then she earned her masters degree in math from The University of Cincinnati. Previously, she taught at LaSalle High School for 21 years before coming to McNicholas.
Miller said she can help students with every math course, except for AP calculus BC, which she is taking a refresher on. She is available to help students in her room 003 with their math from the start of school to 3:15 in the afternoon.
“I love that the students are seeking out help, I hate when I hear that a student was stressed out about math because they didn’t understand how to do it,” Miller said.
