Theatre set to perform The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

McNicholas High School’s theatre department will kick off their performance of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. The show is directed by theatre teacher Leslie Baum who said the actors and actresses have expressed their great excitement for the show’s opening night. Junior Josie Fortin, who plays the role of Maxine, said the show will “prepare us all for Christmas and get us in the Christmas spirit.”

According to Baum, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever tells the story of six misfit children who volunteer to star in their town’s Sunday school Christmas pageant and end up teaching the town the true meaning of Christmas. The show explores themes of redemption, faith, perspective, judgement, and tradition.

The production will be held in McNicholas High School’s Jeanne Spurlock Theatre Dec. 5 at 7 p.m., Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Student tickets are free of charge and can be picked up during lunch on Tuesday, Dec. 3- Friday Dec. 6. Faculty and parents wishing to attend the show can purchase tickets for $10.50 online https://mcnhs2.seatyourself.biz . Baum said McNicholas High School’s past three performances, Mean Girls, Dracula, and Into the Woods have sold out, so those wishing to attend are encouraged to secure tickets early.

The cast has been working since auditions began in October, and they rehearse every day of the school week except Thursdays. A week before the show’s opening night is tech week where the actors are required to show up for long rehearsals on the weekdays and weekends.

According to McNicholas High School’s official Instagram page, the cast and crew are teaming up with Catholic Charities of Southern Ohio for a Holiday Toy Drive to benefit refugee families relocating to Cincinnati. You can participate by bringing new, unwrapped toys to the Jeanne Spurlock Theatre when you come to watch any of the plays’ performances.
