There’s a new sheriff in town: McNick hired School Safety Officer

By Rosie Smith

In February, McNicholas High School hired Ron Fuller, a retired 26-year Cincinnati police officer, to patrol and provide a safe environment for students and faculty/staff.

Shared with Guardian Angels School, there were three McNicholas administrators who worked with GA to hire Fuller: Principal Mr. Bob Noll, Director of Student Life Mr. Bill Losekamp, and President Dr. Denver Standfield.  Stanfield said they hired Fuller to prohibit “any kind of risk from an external source, his goal would be to prevent that.” His responsibilities include security and patrolling the campuses of both McNicholas and GA. “The job entails so much. It’s my job to respond to any physical threats, take a look at access control, natural disaster, and investigate tech,” Fuller said.

“We want to have a school that is as safe as possible,” Losekamp said.

“As we continue to grow with our kids, somebody who helps maintain and constantly evaluate that we have a safe environment,” Noll added.

The process started at the beginning of the year when GA approached and offered to “share” or spilt time with Fuller. McNick accepted the offer mid-February. Fuller said, “Active-duty officers told me about the opening, and I was curious,” Fuller said. After retirement, he missed the social part and decided he wasn’t ready for full retirement. He said he felt it wasn’t working, so he applied for the position for McNick and GA.

Fuller’s schedule has not yet been finalized but will fluxuate between both schools each day.

“This job gives me opportunity to get back into protecting and serving,” he said.

Stanfield explained that having a resource officer does not reduce any faculty responsibilities, and that Fuller provides support and “another set of eyes,” “There are bigger situations that arise that are outside Mr. Losekamp’s and my abilities,” Noll added.

Fuller also shared what he brings to the table which included, “performance under pressure, attention to detail, sound decision making, strong interpersonal communication skills, care/safety, and well-being of everybody who visits,” he said.
