Rocket shop springs into new season

By Hailey McPheron

Rocket Shop manager and Athletic Facilities Coordinator Drew McMillan is preparing the new spring spirit items that are now available in the Rocket Shop.  He said the spring line ideas come from volunteers in the Rocket shop and by students who pop in with suggestions.

So far, the shop has dropped the Class of 2029 sweatshirts, which are close to being sold out. There is also a Rocket Shop – Sports Performance collaboration t-shirt (pictures are included on the Rocket Shop’s new Instagram.) The most popular item currently is the copy of Nike’s version of a college hoodie. McMillan said there will be a spring sale after spring break for a couple of weeks until items run out.

The online Rocket Shop is not yet back up and running.  “There’s been a lot of growth in the shop throughout the year. Obviously opening the paradise shop and basically completely re-doing the shop in here, the online version is basically opening a third store in a calendar year,” McMillan said. The online shop will open in the summer heading into the next school year giving them time to refine it and to make sure it’s user-friendly.

The Rocket Shop has new hours to make it more accessible for students and families. The shop is open Tuesdays from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., and on Wednesdays, it is open from 2:50 p.m. until 5 p.m. It is also open on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. “Just because no one’s coming in right now doesn’t mean that I can close it up because people are getting used to the new hours,” McMillan added. “I am on campus from when school starts to about 5 p.m. on average every day, and I’m not that hard to track down. If I’m in the building I do not mind arranging a time to let people in if need be.” In the summer, McMillan said they will be opening out in the Paradise Rocket Shop to be more easily accessible without the struggle of trying to get into the in-school shop when school is closed.
