Breaking a leg; McNicholas previews fall play

By Lauren Korchok

McNicholas is putting on their fall play, Hope Springs, in the Jeanne Spurlock Theater on November 6, 7, and 8. Hope Springs is about a teenage rebellion where teenagers are trying to find their personal identities after being labeled “the troubled kids.”

Hope Springs takes place on an island reserved for troubled kids, with only adults willing to help them. Once they lose connection to the outside world, the inspector and the assistant inspector arrive to investigate, and what they find is shocking. Senior Joise Fortin described the play as, “A look into the issues of teens today and the stigma of mental health dealing with adult problems.”

Theater teacher and director Ms. Leslie Baum said she wanted a show that had a large ensemble and a play that really speaks to the kids in today’s world. Baum said, “This play is important to how high school students go through life, and how they define themselves.” Hope Springs shines a light not only on mental health but how to be a leader and use leadership traits. Senior Parker Segar’s character, Ringleader, takes leadership over the kids at the camp and helps them to find who they are as a leader. Tickets will be “sold” at all three lunches the week of the play. Students get in free; however, students must sign up for what show and check in at the box office. Tickets for non-students will be sold online and will go on sale the week of the play. Baum said she will send out an announcement when tickets are on sale and a link for online purchases will be available in upcoming weekly school newsletters.
