Seeing double: McNick twins share experiences

By Ashley McEntush

For the 2025-2026 school year, there are a total of 14 sets of twins: Freshmen Hanna and Skylar Ruggiero, Jack and Katie Spiller, Charlotte and Samantha Jones; sophomores Lucy and Aiden Brock; juniors Lillian and Grace Tierney, Ben and Caroline Eiser, Josh and Jake DeBrosse, Ella and Kaitlyn McConnell, Ben and Caroline Eiser, Carter and Colin Gabriel, Kelyn and Kennedy Haucke, Griffen and Brogan Mountel, Leo and Sam Nardiello, Brody and Vaughn Reinhart; and seniors, Zayden and Zarius Harvey, are attending McNick.

Junior Lillian Tierney said being in the same class as her twin can be helpful, “[We can] help each other on homework, [especially] if one is absent or doesn’t understand it.”

Freshman Skylar Ruggiero said she likes having a twin because she is always around someone who is “the same age and does the same sport.”

The Tierney twins said the most annoying question they get asked about being a twin is if they are identical twins or “what it is like having a built-in best friend,” Grace Tierney added. They also stated that they do not think about the fact that they are twins unless someone points it out.

Hanna Ruggiero said, “Being a twin is like having a sister but more annoying and having to share everything.” Some of the Ruggiero twins’ favorite things about being twins are taking most of the same classes together, and Hanna Ruggiero added that she “always has someone to know” in those classes.

Juniors Josh and Jake DeBrosse said that being twins makes everything competitive. They also shared that the most annoying question they get asked is “Do you share the same birthday?” or “Where’s your other half?” They did add that one of the parts they enjoy about being a twin is that they can trick people.

Business and Technology teacher Mr. Nick Terry and Facilities Manager Mr. Chris Terry have a little more experience at being twins than their high school counterparts. Nick Terry shared, “It’s like having a built-in best friend.” Chris Terry said the most annoying question they get asked is, “Which one are you?” They shared that their favorite memory about being twins is all the inside jokes they have because of being twins.

Junior Ella McConnell said she loves being a twin because, “I really like having someone to be close with.” Ella also shared that the most annoying question or statement she hears is, “We don’t look alike, so they, ask are you really twins?” Ella said some of her favorite things about being a twin is “growing up together and always having someone to ask for advice.”

Just like friendships or other sibling relationships, being a twin is a very different experience for every set of twins. From tricking people or asking for advice, not all twins are the same, identical or not.
