At McNicholas High School, students shop in different ways. Some prefer the convenience of online browsing, while others prefer trying on items before purchasing. With Christmas coming up, students are weighing their options between heading to a store or heading to a website.
Many students expressed that shopping online feels faster and more efficient. Freshman Anna Ernst said she likes being able to “check the reviews, find options that are cheaper, and have more available colors.” Freshman Gus Bungenstock described online shopping as “a lot easier,” while sophomore Quinn McHugh said he prefers online shopping because “there are a lot more options.”
Others pointed out why shopping is better to do in person. Sophomore Molly Schomaker said, “being able to try on and look at the material of the clothing” is an important factor in purchasing clothes. Freshman Caleb Dickson said, “I prefer the in-person shopping because I can feel the quality of the product or smell the fragrance/cologne,” and junior Thomas Baker said, “I prefer to shop in person because I get to hold and handle the product to get a sense of the quality and value.”
Both styles of shopping appeal to different needs of the shoppers and what they’re purchasing. Online shoppers value speed, selection, and convenience, while in-person shoppers appreciate being able to see, feel, and try items on before committing to the purchase. Neither approach outweighs the other, but together they show how students at McNicholas make choices based on what matters most to them.
