With the first semester coming to an end, the Teen Library Advisor Board (TLAB) has many plans and upcoming activities for the library. Librarian Mrs. Chelsea Almer shared that she wants the library to be a “fun and inviting place for students.”
Almer said that her goal for the programs taking place in the library is to “make kids want to come into the library and also make it not a scary place.” Almer shared that she wants students to feel comfortable in the library and come in more often. “Eventually we all must do research or come and check out a book or charger, or need technology help, so I don’t want the library to seem like a cold or scary place for people. I want it to be an inviting place,” Almer said. She added that one of her main reasons for all the programs in the library is to “promote literacy and learning.”
Junior Abby Brock, a member of TLAB since it started, said she enjoys being in TLAB for many reasons: “I like being around the people because they are welcoming and have creative ideas for everything.” Brock also stated that she already spends a lot of her time in the library, and when she heard about TLAB she wanted to join to “try something new and expand my horizons of things I do in my daily life.” One of Brock’s ideas for the library include, “making magnetic bookmarks, like with magnets” and to “decorate it and laminate it.”
Sophomore Day’Mia Seay, also a member of TLAB since it started, shared that some of her ideas for the library include trying to “decorate the library not just for the holidays but decorate the library every day, like a theme for every month.” Seay is enjoying TLAB for many reasons, one of her favorite reasons is that “the conversations are very fun, and I get to see the library in a different way.” One thing Seay wants to help bring to the library is “more activities for everyone and to help people evolve and meet new people, not just people in your grade, but people from all grades.”
Senior Noah Fleischmann has been with TLAB ever since TLAB started and shared that “making things for the library brings me joy.” Fleischmann said he likes being in TLAB because “I like seeing people smile and all of my friends are in TLAB.” One thing Fleischmann wants to add to the library is “more art and more energy in the library.”
Sophomore Hailey McPheron shared that she enjoys TLAB because “I get to spend time with friends and make the library a more welcoming place.” Some of McPheron’s ideas for the library are “more activities in the library like diamond art and coloring sheets”
Throughout the year, the students in TLAB have been working hard to collaborate and come up with different ideas for the library to help students want to spend more time in the library, to talk with friends, and do fun activities. “I am pulling together a display of old technology and have a contest where kids can guess what the technology is,” Almer said. TLAB has been busy throughout the semester with plans and activities to keep the library a fun and interactive place for students.
