McNicholas supports Sarah Hickman

On Tuesday, Dec. 31, the McNicholas community was shocked and saddened to learn that sophomore Sarah Hickman had been diagnosed with leukemia.

According to the National Cancer Institute, it is estimated that there are over 44,000 new cases of leukemia diagnosed each year in the United States, and although there are an overwhelming number of people fighting the same battle that Sarah is right now, she is more than just a number to McNicholas community.

As a show of support for Sarah in her fight against cancer, the Milestone Staff is asking the members of the McNicholas community to write a note to her in the comment box below this story. The staff hopes that Sarah will read this post and the comments of support and know that  her McNicholas family is thinking about her and praying for her.

One of the lines of the McNicholas fight song is “Bonded together, that is our cry.” Let the Rockets bond together to help Sarah fight this.

Feel free to comment as often as you’d like, with words of support, advice, humor, and love, whether you were close to her or merely saw her passing in the hall.

There are other ways to support Sarah and her family, too. The Yearbook Staff will be selling ordered orange (the color of Leukemia awareness) bracelets that say “Go. Fight. Cure!” The bracelets are being ordered and will be sold as soon as they come in.

Student Council is selling orange t-shirts for $10, and the proceeds go towards cancer research. To order a shirt, pick up a form in Mr. Jepson’s room.

The annual Crepes for a Cause breakfast on Friday, Feb. 10, sponsored by French NHS, will not only be donating to Catholic Relief Services for earthquake relief in Haiti, but also to cancer research, in support of Sarah Hickman.
