Cincinnati’s summer music scene heats up

As Cincinnati prepares for hot summer days, local teens are getting ready for exciting summer nights filled with concerts, especially those featured at the Riverbend Music Center. The past turnouts have been so large that some famous performers such as Wiz Khalifa, Dave Matthews Band, and Rascal Flatts have made the Southern Cincinnati site a regular stop on their summer tours.

“I’m excited for Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller, it’s a good combination and it’ll be a fun concert,” junior Brent Rudolph said.

While most people know about the main concerts coming to Riverbend, there are also some other smaller concerts in the area featuring non-mainstream bands that are favorites among teenagers. For example, the group Fun is coming to Madison Theater on June 11 in Covington, Kentucky, The All-American Rejects will be at Bogarts on Sunday, May 13, and the Avett Brothers are coming to Columbus on Saturday, May 19.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the Avett Brothers live for the second time,” senior Haley Stultz said. “I also want to see the Boys of the Summer concert at Paul Brown stadium, The Fray, and Nickelback.”

Music taste varies among the students, and Riverbend provides the perfect variety in concerts. The groups coming to the Queen City vary from rap artists to country bands to even a rock tour. Vans Warped Tour, consisting of hard rock or punk bands, comes to Riverbend on Tuesday, July 31.

“I’m really pumped for Warped Tour, because there’s more than just one band there and you have a lot of good bands to choose from to see,” sophomore Matthew Estes said.
