For the 2014-2015 school year, many changes will be occurring within the curriculum, which will affect the Religion Department and the AP Physics course.
AP Physics will be changing from its current one-year format into a two year course. According to Physics teacher Jon Spurlock, the course change to AP Physics I and AP Physics II are being made to help the students.
“Right now, we can’t get through all of the material, so we have to cut out some of it, which can be bad when it’s time for the AP test,” Spurlock said. “With this change we’ll be able to get through everything and take things slower, so it’s easier for the students to get it.”
The other major change coming to McNick for 2014-2015 is in the Religion Department. First, the department title will change from Religion to the Theology Department. The changes are being implemented on a national level, to regulate the material that Catholic schools will be covering.
Director of Curriculum Dan Rosenbaum said the title change is mostly a formality. “For us, we were already teaching most of the material, so really the main thing we’re going to see is just the name change,” Rosenbaum said.
Religion Department Chair Sam Roflow said there will be only one major change coming to the curriculum. “The only big change we’re going to see is that Media and Values will no longer be a class. The most important part of it will be put into the Morality course,” Roflow said. “Instead of Media and Values, there will be a Vocations course for juniors.”
