Every year, the PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) sponsors Mom Prom and the Father Daughter Dance where students and their parents have a night at McNick to spend time together and have fun with each other, along with other students and parents.
Both events took place in late February, Mom Prom on Feb. 28 at and the Father Daughter Dance on Feb. 21. The themes were Red Carpet Gala — Treat Your Mom Like the Star She Is and Surf’s Up, respectively.
For Surf’s Up, Fathers and their daughters came dressed in Hawaiian-themed clothing and the night included a hula hoop contest, a limbo contest, dancing, a photo booth, and a DJ. Next year, PTSA is planning to celebrate the Father Daughter Dance in the fall.
“I had fun taking pictures with my friends and my dad in the photo booth,” sophomore Kiley Byrne said.
The Mom Prom evening started with a red carpet walk where mothers and their sons posed for “the paparazzi,” and then moved on to a night that included dancing, two photo booths, and door prizes kept everyone interested as well as a special presentation to senior moms.
“My favorite part was how cool it was that all of the moms and sons got to hang out and mind of mingle, it was a really good experience and bonding opportunity for everyone involved,” senior Jacob Cheek said.
