McNicholas baseball aims to claim GCL, State

After a successful season, making it deep into the playoffs, and posting an impressive 20-9 record in 2015, the McNicholas Varsity Baseball Team turns their sights to their new season. The team returns most of their players from a year ago that include seniors Liam Brooks, Sam Browning, Ryan Byrne Nick Costello, Grant Hessman, Barrett Leahy, Jordan Ritter, Nick Taylor, and Will Vogelgsang, who hope to lead their team to a State Championship and a GCL title before they depart to play at the collegiate level.

Not only is a State Championship and a GCL title an aspiration for the team this year, it is now an expectation as well. One of the major roadblocks for the team on the way to a GCL championship will be league rivals Badin. “Badin always has a strong team, but this year we like our chances,” Taylor said, who plays first base.  McNicholas will play Badin on April 22 and April 25 in back to back late April games, where they will attempt to crown themselves kings of the GCL.

In order to prepare for the road to the championships ahead of them, the McNicholas baseball team will be making a trip down to Georgia over spring break where they will play some of the best teams the Southeast has to offer. Their regular season will include teams such as Elder, Turpin, and Carroll. The team kicks off their season at home on March 26 against the defending Kentucky State Champions Beechwood.
