Men’s tennis team aims to ace the season

The McNick Men’s Tennis Team started their season April 5 and continue through May. They played their first game April 5 against Fenwick and lost 1-4. The team is made up of fourteen students and is coached by Brian Combs who has been the coach for three years. “I love coaching at McNick because the enthusiasm the boys have for tennis is contagious,” Combs said. “They have such a love for the game and a commitment to getting better that makes these guys a joy to be around.”

The co-captains of the team are seniors Jonathan Grey and Mitchell Hartwell, who have both been on the team since they were freshmen. Members of the tennis team include seniors Grey and Hartwell, juniors Zane Brownrigg, Brady Cunningham, Eric Dill, Jacob Fries, Ryan Stephens, Nick Williams, sophomores Fernando Aguillez, Aidan Darnell, Logan Stanford, Trevor Wray, and freshmen Kyle Bolin and Joseph Daly.

The team’s goal for the season is to win the GCL and qualify for Districts but their number one goal is to “play out every point.” “That means that we make our opponents work very hard to beat us and we are always trying to make them hit one more shot,” Combs said. “If we accomplish the first goal our other goals of winning the GCL and qualifying for Districts will come true as well.”

The team’s next match is April 11 against Northwest at home at Lunken, and they play again April 12 at Chaminade Julienne.
