A common thread among the students at McNicholas is their love for music. In monthly installments of “Music Monday,” Milestone staff reporter and co-editor Madison McClellan will be providing recommendations for new songs to add to your playlist throughout the school year. This month the musical selection has been focused on calming tunes to help to de-stress throughout your busy schedule.
Fair-Weather Friend – Bruno Major
The song “Fair-Weather Friend” is taken from the album A Song For Every Moon by Bruno Major. The album is the result of a project that Major set for himself; this was to release a song every month for 12 months. The songs are filled with a calming sensation, which can easily put listeners in a state of peace. The album itself has a strong progression of different melodies throughout, with representation of different types of music styles such as jazz and folk.
Saturday Sun – Vance Joy
Australian singer/songwriter Vance Joy released the album Nation Of Two in 2018, which includes his song “Saturday Sun,” Joy, who signed with Atlantic Records, is most popular for his folk-pop single “Riptide,” which helped him gain international recognition. “Saturday Sun” has a carefree energy that is filled with acoustics.
Flow – Cage The Elephant
“Flow” was released in 2011 as a part of the album Thank You Happy Birthday, by the band Cage The Elephant. The band originates in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and has become successful after their singles “Free Love” and “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” reached the Top 40 list in June 2008.
