McNicholas is moving from standard PA announcements towards a newer, more interactive announcement system. Once a week, teachers log on to the McNicholas YouTube channel to broadcast the live feed starring students both in front of the camera and behind the camera, delivering that day’s morning announcements and prayer.
“Initially, the idea came from Mrs. Almer. Mr. Mueller was then given the idea, and the school purchased the equipment through auxiliary funds,” Counselor and online announcement coordinator Matt Wehrman said.
The idea was proposed to bring more attention to the morning announcements. “A lot of people don’t necessarily listen to the announcements, so we wanted to mix it up,” Wehrman said.
Students can participate as anchors for the online announcements by talking to Wehrman. “We are open to everybody that wants to help,” he said.
Wehrman is hopeful that the online announcements will become a regular thing, however he added, “We don’t want to completely disrupt the morning of the teachers or have it become boring and students check out.”

Junior Madeline Daley helps out behind the camera for morning online announcements. “Some people don’t want to be in front of the camera, so they can help out behind,” Wehrman said.
