McNicholas High School offers opportunities for eight different winter sports team: men’s and women’s basketball, cheerleading, Dance Team, swimming and diving, wrestling, and men’s and women’s bowling. The Men and Women’s Bowling Teams are nearing the end of their season and have a combined record of 13-15.
The Men’s Bowling Team started off the season 0-2 then proceeded to go on a seven game win streak for an overall record of 9-6. They are currently ranked fifth in the GCL with a conference record of 5-5. Senior Adam Helwig said, “The season has been going really well. We’re doing better than last year, and the team has really bonded.” Their next match is Jan. 28 against Roger Bacon at Cherry Grove Lanes.
The Women’s Bowling Team has a record of 4-9. Despite an unfavorable record the team still remains positive with an emphasis on team unity. Junior bowler Frances Granlund said, “The best part of being on the team is getting to spend time with my teammates, and being able to pull together and bowl as a team while having fun.” Their next match is also Jan. 28 against Roger Bacon at Cherry Grove Lanes.
The entire bowling teams boast 17 seniors — 14 men and three women – including Nick Booher, Will Brokamp, Dominic Daley, Christopher Georgiades, Meechi Georgiades, Ryan Griffin, Adam Helwig, Anna Klug, Sydney Mallaley, Jack Munzel, Donald Noble, Michael O’Connell, Nicholas Russell, Leo Shannon, Megan Suckow, Matthew Szudejko, and Andrew Walsh. Their final home match is Feb. 4 at Cherry Grove Lanes, which is also Senior Night. The bowling match begins at 3:30 p.m. with senior night recognition following the match.
