Taylor commits to OU for wrestling

On Wednesday, November 10, McNicholas held an athletic signing for seniors who committed to college athletic programs.

Class of 2022 senior Pierce Taylor committed to wrestling at Ohio University, a Division I school. Taylor has been on the Varsity Wrestling Team for 4 years and has been wrestling since he was 6. “I started wresting when I was 6. My old football coach got me into it. His son started wrestling a year before, and I just went from there,” Taylor said.

Taylor won MVP in wrestling his junior year and the Rocket Award his sophomore year. In Taylor’s junior year, he was Sectional Champion, District Champion, and placed third at State, which is the highest finish by a wrestling Rocket since 1988. He also received Southwest Ohio Wrestling Coaches Association (SWOWCA) Division III Wrestler of the Year.

Taylor chose Ohio University because it was the first college to reach out. He will be studying marketing and looks forward to a new team environment in college. “I’m excited to meet new people and be in a team environment,” Taylor said.

In addition to wrestling, Taylor has been a three-sport athlete at McNicholas: playing football in the fall and baseball in the spring.

Taylor said he will miss his relationship with his coach when he looks back at McNick in college.

“The great environment allowed me to grow,” Taylor said.
