Fall Recipes Inspired by Teacher’s Family Favorites

As Thanksgiving is approaching, the adults in the building are gearing up to prepare family favorites and traditional dishes that they enjoy during this fall season.

On the Thanksgiving table, the classics of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls make up the main course. A good meal starts with an appetizer for both the chef and the guests to grab while preparations take place.

Not only is Mrs. Jeanne Daly, SAIL teacher, making a sweet treat for herself to enjoy, but she is also spreading the goodness around during the holiday season with her cinnamon sugar roasted almonds. Daly states, “I have made them for years and give them out to others at Christmas as well. A fan favorite”

As the evening comes together, the warm scents of baked dishes waft through the kitchen. For math teacher, Mrs. Ashley Brothers, this is the classic chicken and dumplings. “I remember my grandma making these, my mom made them too, and my grandma would make comments about the soup being too watery,” Brother states, as she passes on the love that comes from a cozy fall dish to her family.

Although sometimes having family around while baking food is a challenge, those little remarks make the best memories. With family memories in mind, Mrs. Jessica Mueller steps into the baking for her growing family. “My grandma was always the one to bring pumpkin pie to all of the holidays,” Mueller states.

As Mueller has stepped into the role of mother, the baking of this dessert has been passed on. “She [grandma] taught me all of her tips and tricks, and I am now the ‘pie bringer’” Mueller states.

Science teacher, Mrs. Jessica Boese also enjoys the baking portion of fall food with her pumpkin cinnamon roll sheet cake. “I made it all the time and my friends really enjoyed it” Boese states.

Part of the enjoyment is the simplicity of preparing the cake. A sheet pan was one of the only baking equipment’s Boese had when she first started making these, she made great use of it that was able to produce a wonderful outcome. “It’s pretty easy but comes together super well and it tastes amazing” states Boese.

Another one of Mueller’s favorite recipes was pumpkin chai snickerdoodles from a recipe she found this recipe in her favorite blog, Half Baked Harvest.

During the fall seasons over the years the teachers have made many memories making these delicious foods with family and friends. The Milestone staff hopes that our readers might be inspired to make memories with their loved ones during this Thanksgiving break.
