The lacrosse season has started for both the boys’ and the girls’ teams, and with a new season is also two new coaches.

The girls’ lacrosse coach Georgia Cheek has much planned for the team this year. “I plan to continue to allow the girls to flourish in not only their lacrosse skills but who they are as people,” Cheek said. She also talked about how the team has been getting ready since June 2024. They played in summer tournaments and indoor leagues to prepare for the 2025 season and they practice six days a week during the season and join the McNick athletics lifting program. The season is busy with 1-3 games a week for JV and Varsity teams, but the girls are ready to face the challenge. “The support from the student body has been awesome, with new players joining the team, which shows how great the program is,” Cheek added. Their first game is at McNick on March 26 against Roger Bacon.

The boys’ lacrosse coach Scott Conklin said he has some big plans this season for the team with the help of Defensive Captains, seniors Jack Kelly, Jack Mayer, and Caleb Moore, and the Offensive Captains junior Joey Celesti and senior Jack Kamphaus. The team started preseason practice on Feb. 18, focusing on seeing how returning players have improved and checking out the skills of new players. “We are currently working on fundamentals and game scenarios and will begin installing the offense and defense over the next few weeks,” Conklin said. The boys have been training with five to six practices a week and extra training 2 to 3 days a week with Sports Performance Director Pete Collopy. The team has 17 regular season games and 1 scrimmage lined up, starting on March 25, and playoffs beginning on May 16. Conklin mentioned that Turpin and Bishop Fenwick will be their toughest opponents, with a special focus on beating Turpin this year. He also talked about how important it is to have support from the student body and encouraged everyone to come out and watch the games. The first game is on March 25 at home against Clinton Massie.
