The McNicholas Athletic Department has recently added two coaches to the 2012 spring sports coaching staff. Ms. Ashley Markesbery has joined the track team’s coaching staff, and Mr. John Christmann is the new varsity baseball coach.
Markesbery graduated from Conner High School in Hebron, KY where she ran track and played tennis. From 8th grade to her freshman year, Markesbery ran track, and then decided to play tennis for her junior and senior years.
During her time running track, Markesbery participated mainly in the mile and two-mile races. Her coaches were all males, and she had always wanted a female coach’s perspective. After noticing that the coaching staff at McNick was much the same, she talked to Rosenbaum about joining the staff.
“I’m most excited about watching the kids do well and cheering them on this season,” Markesbery said.
Christmann is a 1985 graduate of McNicholas and played varsity baseball his junior and senior years. He heard about the coaching opportunity from another McNick grad and began his journey from there.
“I am very much looking forward to helping the players become better and teaching them how to play the game the right way,” Christmann said.
Christmann coached in the professional independent Frontier League for five years with the Florence Freedom as an assistant, and was as assistant coach at Highlands High School in Fort Thomas for three years.
“I think that I have joined the baseball program at the perfect time,” Christmann said. “We have a lot of talent in all three levels, and with the Project Paradise renovations in full swing, the athletic complex will be first class.”
