At the District meet on May 19 at New Richmond, the McNicholas Women’s Track Team became District Champs for the 6th consecutive year. The team also won their GGCL meet on May 8. Senior Kelsey Mueller was named GGCL Athlete Runner of the Year, senior Amanda Bradley was named GGCL Field Athlete of the Year, and Head Coach Dan Rosenbaum was named GGCL Coach of the Year.
“I’m really happy and honored to have received this award. This season has been different than the others. It was weird being the oldest, and I’m going to miss everyone when the season ends. We’ve had a lot of obstacles that we’ve overcome, but it’s been a good season overall,” Mueller said.
At the District meet, Mueller won the 800 meter dash, with a time of 2:18. The 4×400 meter relay team (seniors Rebecca Heise and Kelsey Mueller and juniors Maddie Scott and Megan Simmons) also placed first at the GGCL meet and second at the District meet, and the 4×800 meter relay team (senior Kelsey Mueller, juniors Olivia Fitzpatrick, Maddie Scott, and Megan Simmons) finished second at the League meet and first at the District meet. Both relay teams will be moving on to the regional meet.
Jumping a height of 9’3”, Bradley placed second at the District meet and broke her previous school record. She will be moving on to the regional meet for pole vault, which she also won at the GGCL meet.
“The season has gone pretty well. I placed in almost all my meets and I’m really happy and grateful to have received the GGCL Field Athlete of the Year award. However, my biggest goal of the season is to make it to the State meet. I’ve been cut at Regionals every year and I really want to go further,” Bradley said.
Other qualifiers for the Regional meet include sophomore Amy Humphries (pole vault), junior Maddie Scott (300 hurdles), senior Rebecca Heise (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), sophomore Hannah Wagner (800 relay and 400 relay), sophomore Karina Cabrera (800 relay and 400 relay), junior Kate Gorman (800 relay and 400 relay), sophomore Megan Schaefer (800 relay and 400 relay), and senior Rachel Wadell (3200).
The Women’s Track Team, along with junior Thomas Vogele in the 100 meter dash, will move on to compete at Regional preliminaries and finals on May 24 and 26 at Welcome Stadium on the University of Dayton campus in Dayton, Ohio.
