Volleyball ranked second, holds record for wins

After beating Wyoming in the regular season, the Women’s  Varsity  Volleyball Team secured their second place rank  in Division II in the state of Ohio.  Along with their ranking, the team also currently holds the best record in McNicholas history, with 22 wins and one loss.  No other McNicholas volleyball team has had more than 19 wins.

Senior and team captain Kayla Fritz also broke an individual McNicholas record, setting the most career assists. So far this year, she has had 462 assists, creating a four-year total of 1500 and breaking the old record of 1467.

This year’s team has a strong offense which they have been able to use to their advantage. Junior Sarah Wuerfel said, “We run our plays quickly which makes it hard for the other teams to defend against.”

McNicholas volleyball has made it to Districts for the past four years, and will play again at Districts this Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at Kettering High School against Chaminade Julienne, the team that beat them in the District match last year.

Although  McNicholas beat CJ during this year’s regular season, senior and team captain Sarah Bouley said, “That doesn’t mean anything to us. We will go out Saturday acting like we have never played them before.”

Fritz also said, “I think we have a really good chance of beating CJ. We just have to keep focused and play to our level and we will be fine.”

The team is led by senior team captains Fritz, Bouley, and Brooke Logan, Head Coach Denny Murphy, and Assistant Coach Angel Miller-Ell.

“We are a completely new team this year and have a lot more motivation than we did last year,” Bouley said. “Also, I think we will go out harder than ever this Saturday because this could be the last time playing for some of the seniors.”
