McNicholas recognizes students at annual art show and academic awards

On Wednesday, May 14, McNicholas students, parents, and faculty gathered in the lobby and main gym for the annual Art Show and Academic Awards. The Art Show began at 6 p.m. and the academic portion of the night began at 7 p.m.

Before the Academic Awards, students and families were encouraged to enjoy students’ artwork. Senior Maddie Weir had five pieces in the show and was excited for her peers and family members to see her hard work displayed. “I have worked hard this year, so I am excited that my hard work and talent will be shown to everyone,” Weir said.

Academic letters and pins were given to students who have been on Honor Roll for at least three of the four quarters of this school year. Honor Roll includes Dean’s List, First Honors, and Second Honors. In addition, academic scholarships were awarded to students and students in each of McNicholas’ many honors societies were acknowledged. Afterwards, representatives from the Marines, the Army, and various alumni-sponsored scholarship presented awards for academic excellence and scholar athletes.

Administrative Assistant Pat Farwick prepares the awards each year so the night runs smoothly. “Departmental and a few athletic awards were given, as well as scholarships from the community and McNicholas scholarships that students applied for,” Farwick said.
