There’s a lot on the McNicholas calendar for this month of December and it can be hard to keep track of the various events that are happening. See the rundown of events and be sure to add them to your Outlook calendar.
Advent Fair Trade Sale
When: Dec. 4 and 5 from 11 a.m. – 2 P.M.
Where: The Library
Students and faculty are hosting a Fair Trade Sale where all of the proceeds go towards the Nicaraguan artisans who have made the items that are for sale. The items being sold include jewelry, artwork, and seasonal items. This is an opportunity to buy gifts for someone you love while supporting the dignity of the workers in Nicaragua.
Cooking Club Cookie Exchange
When: Dec. 5
Where: Room 11
The Cooking Club is hosting a cookie exchange where students can bring in a dozen cookies packaged in Ziploc bags to exchange them with other Cooking Club members. If a member brings in three dozen cookies, they can go home with three dozen different kinds of cookies. Students can also donate two dozen cookies for the convent reception on Dec. 7. Drop the cookies off on Sunday afternoon or leave them with Mrs. Goines on Friday afternoon.
Centennial Anniversary of the Convent
When: Dec. 7 from 6-8 p.m.
Where: The Convent
McNicholas High School is hosting a Christmas Open House celebrating the centennial anniversary of the convent. The event includes tours, performances by the McNicholas band and liturgy choir, refreshments, activities for children, a tree lighting, and a special visit by Santa himself.
Student Council’s Gifts for Hope
When: No Later than Dec. 8
Where: The Library
Student Council is sending boxes to Hope Emergency to bring hope to teens who might not have a gift to open this Christmas. To participate, simply wrap a shoebox and fill it with items for teens aged 12-18. Then, put the wrapped shoebox under the tree in the library. Be sure to write your name on an ornament to hang on the tree. You can even partner with other students. All gifts must be under the tree no later than Dec. 8.
The Immaculate Conception Mass
When: Dec. 8 at 1:10 p.m.
Where: Guardian Angels Church
McNicholas will celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception at Guardians Angels Church on Monday, Dec. 8. Father Bill Stockelman of St. Bernadette Parish in Amelia will lead the worship. All parents, alumni, and other members of the extended McNicholas community are invited.
The McNicholas Band’s Winter Concert
When: Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.
Where: The Main Gym
The McNicholas Band is holding a winter concert that includes Christmas classics and pop hits.
Friday Morning Mass
When: Dec. 12 and 19 at 7 a.m.
Where: The Convent
Father Dave Endres will host Friday morning masses on Dec.12, and Father Paul Ruwe will lead worship on Dec. 19. Mass starts at 7 a.m. in the convent.
Varsity Basketball
The Women’s and Men’s Varsity Basketball Teams have home games this month and they need the “Launchpad” to be in full effect.

Men- Dec. 19- vs. Purcell Marian at 7:30 p.m.

Christmas Spirit Week
The school week of December 8th is Christmas Spirit Week. Students can dress accordingly to various Christmas themes. Students are not allowed to wear leggings or jeans on Monday through Thursday because they will be considered out of uniform and will be written up. The themes are…..
