After winning their Nationals competition last year, the McNicholas Dance Team, the Rockettes, had high expectations coming in to this season. Taking on the role as captain is senior Olivia Witt assisted by co-captains seniors Katie Farr and Hope Wilson. In addition to new senior leadership, the team also has a new assistant coach, Kayla Woods. Woods may be new to the coaching staff but is not unfamiliar with the program, graduating from McNick just last year.
The Rockettes came home on March 7 as the SCAU Cincinnati Regional Champs in Pom for the second year in a row, defeating five other teams. They also received second place in jazz.
“We had been working on the Pom routine since summer, so winning this competition really felt like all of our hard work paid off,” Witt said.
The team also made history on March 14, hosting the first ever competition at McNick.
“The teams, coaches, and parents all seemed to enjoy their time at McNick. I loved finally being able to host a competition. It allowed us to show off our program and school,” Wilson said.
Leading up to Nationals, the team plans to continue their weekly practices along with many team bonding rituals in preparation for the big day. The competition will take place at the Indiana Convention Center on April 11.
