Rockets commit to college athletics

On April 12, senior athletes Zane Brownrigg and Chris Dunne signed National Letters of Intent to play their respective sports at the college level starting with the 2017-2018 school year. Deciding to continue their golf careers, Brownrigg signed to Methodist University, and Dunne signed to Wittenberg University. This was McNick’s final signing day of the year.

Zane Brownrigg

Brownrigg will attend Methodist University starting fall 2017 to further his career in golf. He was a four-year player for McNick and a part of the 2016 State Championship Team. He said his time at McNick allowed him to get better every year surrounded by the same teammates.

Brownrigg was four years old when he first started playing golf and became very interested around age eight. He has decided to continue playing in college because he loves competition. “I don’t know what I would do without competition,” he said. When he thinks back on his seasons at McNick, he remembers winning the state championship his senior year. When it comes to next year, he is looking forward to traveling with his team and engaging in more competitions.

Brownrigg’s parents are extremely proud of him. “He developed a passion for golf when he was young, but it is his hard work and leadership that has made him successful. Methodist will an incredible learning experience for Zane – he is ready to get away from home and be on his own. We look forward to his progress as a golfer, but even more his progress off the course as he is exposed to new people and new experiences,” his dad John Brownrigg said.

Chris Dunne

Dunne will attend Wittenberg University starting fall 2017 to further his career in golf. He was a four-year player for McNick, and like Brownrigg, was a member of the 2016 State Championship Team, which he believes will help him in college-level golf.

Dunne was four years old when he first started playing golf. He decided to play in college because of the job opportunities that golfing could bring him. Through his years at McNick, Dunne believes that his fellow teammates pushed him to be a better golfer. He said his parents and coaches also had a huge impact on his athletic career.

Dunne received offers from other colleges, but he chose Wittenberg because of the smaller size of the school and the new golf facilities that will be completed by his sophomore year. He is excited for the opening of those and for traveling with his team.
