‘The Milestone’ launches new site design

Dear Milestone readers and subscribers,

The McNicholas Milestone has designed a new website user interface for online publication. This new site launched Dec. 4. The URL for the new site has remained the same as the previous site, at https://mcnicholasmilestone.com.

The change arose from the desire to modernize the site and remain fresh and current in site design. The previous site design was set in place when The McNicholas Milestone switched from a print publication to an online publication in November 2010. Adviser Angie Noble and the journalism staff felt that the old site had become outdated, and an update was necessary.

The McNicholas Milestone, Archbishop McNicholas High School’s Official Online Newspaper; News for the Students, by the Students” will be displayed at the top of every page on the site, and the homepage is accessible at any time by clicking on the site identity. The four article categories remain the same: News, Student Life, Editorials, and Sports. Every article has also retained their rating and comment functions, and readers are encouraged to comment.

Previous articles can be found by searching key words, scrolling past sticky articles on the homepage or via the Archives link in the widget sidebar. Sticky articles are the most recent articles published and have a light green background on the homepage. The widget sidebar includes the subscribe button, search bar, Photo of the Week, @McNickMilestone Twitter timeline, Meet the Staff, and Archives. The sidebar appears along the right side of every page, including the homepage, on the new site, rather than on the homepage exclusively.

As this is The Milestone’s first site redesign, we are still working out some bugs and other issues. We thank you in advance for your patience. If you notice any problems or have any concerns, please contact advisor Angie Noble (anoble@mcnhs.org) or Editor-in-Chief Nicholas Wynn (18165@mcnhs.org).  Contact us with any comments, questions, or story ideas as well. We are excited about this new phase in The Milestone’s life, and we hope you are excited too!
