Junior Sydney Mallaley competed in the state golf tournament on Oct. 12 and 13 at The Ohio State University’s Gray Golf Course. Mallaley was the only qualifier from the women’s golf team to make it to the state golf tournament.
Willy Corbett, women’s head golf coach, described Mallaley as being “very competitive and dedicated.”
During regular season play, Mallaley averaged a 41 nine-hold average, making her the top golfer in GCL standings. In the state tournament where she golfed 18 holes each of the two days, she finished 13th with a score of 82 and a score of 75 the following day. She described the experience as a “great opportunity and it was exciting.” Mallaley was only two strokes off from being named All-state Golf.
Since she is a junior, Malalley hopes to return and win state her senior year. Malalley is interested in playing college golf at Xavier University or Northern Kentucky University.
In addition to Mallaley, McNicholas had state golf qualifiers in the past with Lucy Frey in 2005 and Ally Hickman in 2011.
