Sock, coat drives offer service opportunities for all students

For the next week and beyond, there are two service opportunities for McNicholas students to help others by a simple donation.

The first opportunity where Rockets can help is with the “Socktober” sock drive. Students can bring in new pairs of socks to fill the bins outside of the Counseling and College Readiness office. “The idea came about in one of our meetings. Mrs. Tumser, the head of student council, came up with it,” sophomore Student Council president Stephanie Schmidt said.

The “Socktober” sock drive has been extended through Friday, Nov. 8. The drive benefits the poor and those who don’t have any socks to keep their feet warm during the cold months. “As a student, it shows that you are helping those in need by giving of what most people don’t even realize some people can’t afford,” Schmidt added.

The annual Coat Drive, sponsored by Service Club, runs through Nov. 15. Students are encouraged to bring in gently used (or new) coats and other warm clothing items in all sizes to benefit those who seek help through the St. Vincent DePaul Society.  All donations can be taken directly to the Theology hallway.  Questions?
