Teaching others about McNicholas through ambassador

As shadow season at McNicholas begins, the student ambassadors are ready to show the school in hopes to increase enrollment. Ambassadors give tours, answer questions, bond with their shadow, and show guests the McNicholas experience.

Student ambassadors are not considered a club, it is a program. Being involved in McNicholas is easy with the many programs’ shadows see during their day here but for ambassadors, this is more than a club.

The stress is real with many shadows, but McNicholas’ ambassadors love to show off the school. Mrs. Tumser, the Student Director of Admissions said, “The most stressful part of shadow season is piecing together who is going to be a perfect match for the shadow.”

Tumser added, “The personalities matter because it is important that the shadows bond with their ambassador.”

Ethan Feeney, sophomore, talking with his shadow about the many opportunities McNicholas has to offer.

The class of 2026 being a large class, McNicholas hopes that the class of 2027 will be even bigger. Tumser says, “With all of the shadows it’s looking like it.” Shadowing is a big part of becoming a McNicholas Rocket.

When the shadow has an enjoyable experience, it assures McNicholas that enrollment will go up next year. Freshman Sarah Hutchinson said, “I became an ambassador because of my ambassador I was paired with last year, and because she was so kind, I wanted to bring that to other shadows.”

The shadow season is always fun for Tumser as she says, “It is the most rewarding feeling when the shadow has had a good day, and all because of my ambassadors.”

Hutchinson said, “Being an ambassador is something I definitely recommend, and I loved having a shadow already.” Shadow season isn’t all stress, it is filled with excitement and new beginnings.

Audrey Beverly, a junior ambassador says, “Being an ambassador is a good way to get involved and teaches you about representing the school.” Beverly is a true Rocket who hasn’t had many shadows but, her bond with her few shadows is real like her Rocket Pride.
