McNick’s new café offers new lunch entrees

The McNicholas High School cafeteria received an upgrade over the summer and along with it came new lunch options. The McNicholas Milestone surveyed students about their favorite lunch item and top answers included pizza, boneless wings, and walking tacos, with pizza earning the top spot with 20 of 55 responses claiming it for best entrée.

Chef and manager Tanya Gorden said, “We make around 200 pizzas a day and sell out of all of them most of the time.” Gorden also said that they begin prepping for lunch right after breakfast ends at 9:30 just for the rush of lunch. Sophomore Sebastian Wiesenhahn said, “The new café is awesome; it has a lot of different options and varieties to choose from so I can enjoy my lunch every single day.” Junior Aydan Williams also voiced his opinion on his favorite lunch entrée saying, “The double bacon burger been my favorite so far and I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far from the café this year.”  Although the freshman didn’t get to experience the café last year, many students at McNick agree that it has improved.  Lunch item choices now include foods like pulled pork sandwiches, chicken shawarma, lasagna al forno, spaghetti and meatballs, and chili dogs, among other options.

In addition to freshly made additions every day, there are also fresh items like pudding or yogurt parfaits, fruit cups, salads, and hoagies in the cold case.  Gorden added that many of the new lunch items were able to be added because of the new refrigerated area and more space for snack items. She also said they wanted to provide students with a better selection of items along with new food and drink items for whatever cravings arise throughout the day.
