Uniform Policy Shifts Toward Modesty

New uniforms for the 2026-2027 school year at McNicholas High will begin being integrated in the fall with the incoming freshman class, the Class of 2030. The current sophomores, juniors, and seniors will be “grandfathered in,” so they can continue to wear their current uniforms. This policy will reduce financial pressure for current families.

“Our previous vendor was increasing [cost] a lot. That’s why we started looking at other vendors that might provide a quality skirt at a better price for our families,” Administrative Assistant to the Principal, Mrs. Jennifer Tumser said. The administration selected Lands’ End as the new vendor.

Tan khaki skirts will be phased out to better represent the school’s colors of green, black, and white. Female students will have new skirt options, including solid black and plaid, while male students can now purchase new pants from Lands’ End. “We just thought that this uniform that we had, there have been some sizing issues and some issues with getting them on time, and we feel like this is going to give our students a much wider chance of being able to get them when they need them,” said Director of Student Life Mr. Bill Losekamp. He added that improved sizing and faster delivery were key factors in the switching vendors.

The uniform changes are expected to positively affect the school by offering students more flexibility and fashion options. “We have to think about [the fact] that no two students are the same, so, I think having an extended volume of different types of skirts, pants, and shorts helps the students to be able to feel confident in what fits them the best,” Tumser said. “Modesty should always be at the forefront of any uniform. And I’m hoping that those uniforms will continue to show modesty,” Losekamp added.

Guaranteeing students feel confident in high-quality, affordable uniforms is a top priority for the school. Administrators acknowledge the financial sacrifices many families make to attend McNicholas and point out minimizing additional costs. “This uniform was put through the student leadership, and the student leadership had a choice in making some of the selections,” Losekamp added.
