McNicholas High School’s Rockets for Life Club is hosting a Blankets for Babies fundraiser until Dec. 12. They will be collecting gently used, new, or handmade blankets, as well as tied-fleece blankets and crocheted knitted items to donate to Pregnancy Center East.
A similar fundraiser was held last year by Rockets for Life Club members Lily Deller, Emma McDermott, Michelle Rowekamp, Kevin Grannen, and Maggie Sheehan, called Crochet for a Cause that accepted handmade items of any kind. This year, however, the club decided to focus specifically on blankets for mothers who ‘chose life’ for their babies.
“Students can ask their parents if they have any old baby blankets they had saved from when they or other siblings were babies,” Deller said. “They could tie fleece blankets and donate them, which is what a lot of the club members are doing.”
Deller added that the club has done very well so far this year with the number of donations received.
“There was no goal for us that we wanted to reach, but we are very happy with the donations,” she said.
